Prince Harry is homesick and has lost contact with his military friends, a royal commentator has claimed.
Angela Levin questioned whether the Duke of Sussex actually enjoys his American lifestyle, having shelved his royal duties and relocated to California with his wife Meghan Markle in 2020.
Harry and Meghan were in the UK when the Queen died and the Duke has been seen in public with his brother William several times since – something which has been increasingly rare in recent years.
The siblings went to view tributes to the late monarch outside Windsor Castle alongside their wives, and were together with the Queen's six other grandchildren for a vigil while she lies in state at Westminster Hall.
Levin believes that their shared grief could be a time for the brothers to reconcile – but said that to do so Harry will need to apologise to the Prince of Wales.
“In the wake of the Queen’s death, Harry has been catapulted back into the fold of the family, and King Charles and Prince William have provided a gigantic olive branch,” she told The Sun.
“I think William has behaved with enormous decency. Harry is sixth in line and has been positioned as such. But for stability to be forged there has to be compromise from both sides, but mostly from Harry.”
Levin added that Harry had previously told her that he was keen to support William when he eventually inherits the throne.
However, she said subsequent media interviews – notably Harry and Meghan's televised appearance with Oprah Winfrey in which they criticised the royal family – had left wounds that required healing.
For that to happen, Levin says Harry must “apologise before they can move forward” and speculated that the Prince of Wales may want assurances from his brother that no future conversations will be leaked to the media.
She also urged the Duke to prevent publication of his memoirs, telling him “the manuscript needs to go in the bin”.
Levin expressed her concerns that, should the pair fail to reconcile now, it may be that there is not a future opportunity to do so.
She also claimed that “I am told Harry is homesick and misses family, friends and the military, who he is no longer in close contact with”.
While acknowledging that Harry enjoys being with Meghan and their children Archie and Lilibet, she speculated that he may not enjoy other aspects of their life in America.
And she believes that Americans are losing interest in the couple, because “they have little else to talk about apart from groaning about his family and lecturing us on what we should do, without doing it himself”.
