Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been warned they risk "stealing the spotlight" if they attend the Coronation of King Charles III.
The Sussexes received an invite to the ceremony from the new monarch, but are yet to publicly announce whether they will be in attendance as a number of bitter rows continue.
However, a PR and Crisis Communications Specialist believes the pair would be wise not to attend the historical moment if they want to have a chance of rebuilding their brand.
Patrick O'Kane told the Mirror the duo find themselves in a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation.
But he believes it could be worth the pair taking a step back from the spotlight on this occasion if they want to make a fresh start - even if that includes turning down the King's invite.
Patrick from Different Narrative said: "With public opinion very much divided on whether the couple should attend King Charles II’s Coronation, there is a risk that Harry and Meghan’s attendance would steal the limelight on what should be a historical day not only for Royals but for the United Kingdom and the entire Commonwealth."
Despite saying a non-attendance could seem like a "slap in the face" for the new King, Patrick thinks Harry and Meghan need to take some time out. "[Stepping back] might be the best way to protect their brand," he continued.
"A reset on their activities and re-evaluation of their objectives as they seek to rebuild a life of their own making would enable a fresh start."
And he also believes that any return to attention down the line would require a "more tactical approach" as this might help the couple win over those who are currently sat on the fence on their views.
"The key thing for Harry and Meghan is to minimise their impact on a moment in Royal history at the start of May, but whichever decision they take, they may face a rocky road back into the limelight," he said.
Prince Harry and Meghan were also warned about their appearance at the Coronation by former royal servant Paul Burrell.
Earlier in the week, the 64-year-old claimed the Prince is yet to feel the wrath of his dad following his scathing words regarding the Queen Consort, Camilla.
Harry previously labelled her the "wicked stepmother" and Paul believes the couple should "stay in America".
Speaking to Closer Magazine, Paul said: "The King's wrath is yet to come down on his son. He has criticised the woman he loves in public.
"Harry and Meghan should stay in America and live a long and happy life there. There's not a life for them here now. They've turned their back on the Royal Family, the country and the people of the country."
