Prince Harry and Meghan Markle 'undecided' on attending King Charles' coronation

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are yet to decide if they will attend King Charles III's coronation on May 6, 2023.

Prince Harry and Meghan were both invited alongside a 2,000 strong guestlist to attend the ceremony at Westminster Abbey in May, reports the Mirror.

And despite Harry being fifth in line to the throne, as the King's youngest son, he will play no special part in the ceremony - if he does show up.

The Mirror have been told by a source close to the couple that neither Charles or Harry's brother, William, have spoken directly to the pair about attending the event.

Harry is reported to want a meeting between himself and his brother and father ahead of flying to the UK to attend the coronation.

A source said: “Harry has been very clear and his position hasn’t wavered – he isn’t going to come if he feels the atmosphere will be as toxic as it was during the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and funeral.

“He’s said he wants to reconcile with his family and it’s their call, but so far nothing has changed.”

The Royal Family are understood to be "fully expecting" the attendance of Harry and Meghan, despite their reported anger at Harry's allegations in his memoir, Spare.

However, the couple would not be invited to appear on the Buckingham Palace balcony alongside their family.

Government advisers are also putting plans in place in case Harry decides to attend the coronation in a 48-hour whirlwind trip.

One possible scenario is that Harry attends the event on his own, with Meghan staying at home to celebrate their son Archie's fourth birthday - which is also on May 6.

However, the royal source said: “Whatever they do it will most likely be as a family.”

When asked about the coronation by ITV news anchor Tom Bradby in January, Harry said: "There’s a lot that can happen between now and then, but you know, the door is always open, the ball is in their court.

“There is a lot to be discussed and I really hope they are willing to sit down and talk about it.”

Coronation invitations are yet to be sent out, but Palace sources have suggested that guests will receive them in the coming days. With only 2,000 seats available, compared to 8,000 for the Queen’s coronation in 1953, MPs and peers will enter a ballot to attend.
