Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle could be about to receive a major TV award thanks to their bombshell Netflix documentary. The docuseries, titled Harry and Meghan, is nominated for Best Streaming Nonfiction Series in the Hollywood Critics Awards (HCA).
The duo will be up against Prehistoric Planet 2, Rainn Wilson and the Geography of Bliss, Rennervations, The 1619 Project and The Reluctant Traveller with Eugene Levy. Last year, the film categories of awards were dominated by Everything Everywhere All at Once, with Michelle Yeoh winning Best Actress, while Brendan Fraser won Best Actor for The Whale.
Harry & Meghan's documentary was a massive hit for Netflix, with 2.4 million people tuning in for launch day. The series received the highest UK viewing ratings for any Netflix show in 2022 and proved more popular than The Crown, which raked in 1.1 million viewers for its premiere day.
In reaction to the official tweet announcing nominees, fans were quick to wish the now California-based couple well. Jenypha9 wrote: "The Harry & Meghan series should win this category. Very well deserved!! Congratulations to the team for a job well done!"
Icklenoni added: "Congratulations to all the nominees, I'll be cheering on Harry & Meghan, loved their docuseries." Sussex2023 put: "Oh my God I cannot believe this, congratulations Harry and Meghan, love always wins."
The documentary detailed the pair's love story and challenges battling for privacy. In the series, the Duchess of Sussex claims that when news first broke of the two dating, her neighbours in Toronto were paid by members of the press to plant a camera in her back garden.
She claims: "They had paid certain neighbours to put a livestream camera into my backyard. Suddenly it was like everything about my life was getting so much more insular. All the curtains were pulled, all the blinds were pulled. It was scary."
Meghan's mother, Doria, also featured in the Netflix production and touched on the Duchess' mental health. She said: "I remember her telling me that she wanted to take her own life, and that really broke my heart.
"Because I knew that it was bad, but to just constantly picked at by these vultures, just picking away at her spirit, that she would actually think of not wanting to be here, that's not an easy one for a mum to hear."

The HCA TV Awards Committee and Television Branch members will vote on the winners beginning July 18, 2023. However, due to the ongoing writers strikes featuring the WGA and SAG/AFTRA, winners of the 2023 HCA TV Awards will no longer be presented on August 12th and August 13th.
