Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been instructed to resolve the rift with Prince William and Kate Middleton caused by their Oprah interview, insiders have said.
The infamous interview "crossed the line" and left the Prince and Princess of Wales upset and angered, sources have claimed.
Now, the pair have been told to apologise for the interview and "acknowledge the motives behind it" before the Queen's funeral on Monday.
The four have already appeared together in public following the death of Her Majesty the Queen, all laying flowers as well as being seen at Westminster Hall on Wednesday.
An insider told the Telegraph: “They feel they’ve had to be steely to send a message that you cannot just say this hugely upsetting stuff without there being consequences.”
During the 2021 tell-all interview with Oprah, Harry and Meghan spoke about their split from the Royal Family.
They also revealed there had been "concerns" over the colour of their son Archie's skin and said Prince Charles, now King, had stopped taking Harry's phone calls.
Meghan said she had felt suicidal, but was not allowed to get help, and the pair also revealed they secretly got married before their royal wedding, and announced they were expecting their daughter in the summer of 2021.
The rift has caused tension among the Royal Family, with Harry and Meghan reportedly being uninvited to a state reception held by King Charles at Bucking Palace.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are said to have received an invitation earlier this week for the grand event which would see many foreign aides and political figures meet on the eve of the Queen's funeral.
However, officials from Buckingham Palace say the duo missed out as it for working royals only and aides of Harry and Meghan suggested they would unlikely attend.
Many people have held hopes Prince William and Harry would make amends after the American bombshell interview after they appeared side by side to mourn their late grandmother.
The brothers put aside their differences as the four inspected flowers, with one insider saying: “It was an important show of unity for the Queen.”
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex joined the new Prince and Princess of Wales and other members of the Royal Family for a small and private gathering at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday evening to receive the Queen's coffin before it lie in state at Westminster Hall.
The brothers had barely spoken for more than two years after the Sussexes left for the US.
It was the first time the couples have been seen in public as a foursome since Commonwealth Day in March 2020.
