Prince Harry and Andrew were 'embarrassed' to be stripped of royal roles

Princes Harry and Andrew do not want their royal titles removed and were "terribly embarrassed" at the thought, a royal reporter has claimed.

King Charles' son and brother are Counsellors of the State - roles that essentially mean they can 'stand in' for the monarch. The House of Lords has heard a call to remove the princes from the roles.

The House of Lords has heard a call for the Duke of Sussex and King Charles ' younger brother to be removed as Counsellors of State. Royal experts claim the new monarch made the decision for the sake of 'family unity' and even took public opinion into account when making his mind up, the Mirror reports.

The Royal Beat programme on the True Royalty channel discussed the change during a recent talk about the Prince and Princess of Wales' upcoming visit to the US.

The Daily Mirror's Royal Editor Russell Myers told the programme about the process leading to removal of the Duke of York and the Duke of Sussex as Counsellors of State.

"The fact is, they didn't want to remove them completely, because that would have been terribly embarrassing, and Charles is all about unity within the family," Russell said.

"[But] he does understand that there is public feeling towards those two in particular... I think some people are aggrieved at how Harry had gone about treating his family."

He continued: "There was obviously an awful lot of support for the way he did leave the family and chose his own destiny, but I don't think people agree with the fact that if you leave, you should then be able to deputise for the monarch!"

Talking about Prince William and Kate Middleton 's trip to America, Russell says they have a lot to look forward to in getting used to their new royal roles.

Ingrid Seward, editor in chief of Majesty Magazine told the programme that US crowds will have a different view of the Princess of Wales compared to the Duchess of Sussex.

She said: "The Americans I know all love the Princess of Wales.

"They adored Diana - no one will replace her - but they love the Princess of Wales now, and I think they think she's absolutely gorgeous. And she's a princess. To them, Meghan isn't a princess."

The Royal Beat also discussed King Charles' royal residencies and how he planned to open them out for the public, which Russell said he was "very keen" on doing.

The King reportedly has plans to turn Balmoral Castle into a museum to bring in some money and make it more sustainable for the public and the royal family.

Ingrid added: "People, especially visiting from abroad, love the idea that they're going into a palace or a castle where the Queen or somebody is actually living - although you don’t see them - so that is quite important and there should be a presence there."
