Prince Edward Island reports one patient in hospital due to COVID-19, 235 new cases

CHARLOTTETOWN — Prince Edward Island health officials say one person is in hospital being treated for COVID-19.

Chief public health officer Dr. Heather Morrison says there is a second patient in hospital with the disease, who was admitted for other reasons and was either positive upon arrival or tested positive later.

She said today in a news release there are 235 new infections on the Island and all are under investigation.

The Island has 2,118 active reported cases of COVID-19.

Morrison says that over the last seven days there have been an average of 217 cases per day.

The province is reducing the frequency of its COVID-19 updates and will only release new data on infections and hospitalizations three times a week, on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
