Prince Charles has extended an open invitation to Prince Harry despite the Duchess of Sussex saying their relationship was “lost”.
The couple are “always welcome” to stay with the Prince of Wales, royal sources have revealed ahead of Harry and Meghan’s trip to the UK this week.
A close friend last night described how Charles has once again tried to bring his son back into the fold.
The insider said: “He hasn’t wavered, despite the attacks, which seem to be coming with increased vigour.
“The Prince of Wales reiterated his invitation for Harry and Meghan, and the whole family if they wished, to come and stay with him this summer while he is at his home on the Balmoral estate.
“He thought it might be a good opportunity for everyone to take stock and relax, but the invitation was declined.”
Actress Meghan, 41, suggested last week that her husband felt his bond with his father was over following his decision to quit his public duties.
Meghan told The Cut magazine: “Harry said to me, ‘I lost my dad in this process’. That’s his decision.”
Sussex biographer and friend Omid Scobie said: “I understand that Prince Harry is referring to Meghan’s loss of her own father, and Meghan is saying she doesn’t want Harry to lose his.”
Harry and Meghan, who now live in California after quitting their royal roles in 2020, are due in Manchester today for the One Young World summit, an event which brings together young leaders from more than 190 countries.
The Sussexes will then head to Germany for the Invictus Games One Year To Go event on Tuesday, before returning to the UK for the WellChild Awards in London on Thursday.
It will be their first time in Britain since the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in June.
They are understood to be staying at Frogmore Cottage, just a short walk from the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s new home on the Windsor estate, but have no plans to see William, Kate and their children.
The Sussexes are also understood to have made no arrangements to see the Queen, who is at her Balmoral estate. We approached the Sussexes for comment.

The Queen’s meeting with the new Prime Minister – her 15th – tomorrow will be the first time she has carried out the duty at Balmoral.
Boris Johnson will meet the Queen first, before Her Majesty holds a private audience with the new Prime Minister in the drawing room at Balmoral.
A picture, but no video, will be released.
Prince Charles is also in Scotland this week to host a symposium of scientists at Dumfries House, organised by The Natasha Allergy Research Foundation.
Natasha Ednan-Laperouse, 15, died in 2016 after eating a baguette from Pret a Manger before boarding a flight at Heathrow.
A coroner concluded that she would not have eaten the baguette if sesame seeds – to which she was severely allergic – had been on the label.
Charles said: “I was moved beyond words by the tragic death of Natasha.
“That is why my Prince’s Foundation is hosting leading scientists to tackle the environmental causes of allergic disease, so that no more lives are needlessly lost.”
