An SNP MSP has called for Prince Andrew to be stripped of his Earl of Inverness title after the Queen took away his military and royal patronages.
Emma Roddick said her constituents are “baffled” about why the Duke of York has retained the perk.
The Queen made the decision after it was confirmed her son faces a US civil action over sexual assault allegations - claims he has denied.
Buckingham Palace said in a statement last week: "With the Queen's approval and agreement, the Duke of York's military affiliations and Royal patronages have been returned to the Queen.
"The Duke of York will continue not to undertake any public duties and is defending this case as a private citizen."
Prince Andrew's roles will be given to other members of the Royal Family.
However, he is still known as the Earl of Inverness, a title he received in 1986.
Roddick, a Highlands and Islands MSP, told the Record: “Many of my constituents are baffled as to how a man deemed unfit for many of his other titles is still seen as appropriate to retain the Earl of Inverness title.
“I'd be happier to see royal titles gone for good but, as long as they remain, the holder is linked to the area. I stand with a lot of others in Inverness in believing we should no longer have this forced association with Prince Andrew.”
Virginia Giuffre is suing the duke in the US for allegedly sexually assaulting her when she was a teenager and claims she was trafficked by Andrew’s friend, convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, to have sex with the duke when she was 17 and a minor under US law.
The duke has strenuously denied the allegations.
The fallout from Andrew’s civil sex case continued on Friday as he faced calls to pay for his own security and lose his dukedom.
