Prime Minister Boris Johnson could face £10,000 in Covid fines, says lawyer

Prime Minister Boris Johnson could face Covid lockdown breach fines of as much as £10,000 in total, a lawyer has said.

However human rights barrister Adam Wagner has said Boris Johnson could end up paying more than £10,000 in fines over the Downing Street parties if more were issued.

Mr Johnson and chancellor Rishi Sunak have both been fined for breaking the strict Covid restrictions imposed on the country during the pandemic. Both, along with the Prime Minister's wife Carrie, were issued with fixed penalty notices by the Metropolitan Police on Tuesday for breaking the rules in June 2020. All three confirmed they had paid their fines and apologised.
