Pupils at a Lanarkshire primary school are determined to take action on litter problems in their local area.
The St John's Primary children have been braving the winter weather recently to clean up Hamilton as they aim to raise awareness of the issue.
They raised particular concerns around the Bent Park area which neighbours the school, where lots of rubbish is regularly seen dumped.
In launching their litter campaign, the pupils wrote to the Hamilton Advertiser in a bid to make Hamilton residents more aware of the problem. And they have since also raised their concerns with Lanarkshire MSP Monica Lennon.
The St John’s pupils wrote: “We really want to make this environment a better place for the next generations of Hamilton.”
Children are now regularly out in force in their local area with litter pickers and bin bags to help reduce the amount of rubbish left lying beside their school.
And when the town was hit by severe weather and snow last week, they were still determined to carry out their clean-up mission.
The school now looks forward to gathering more local support to make their area a more pleasant and eco-friendly place to live and visit.
