Primark to open 10 new stores before Christmas as part of huge expansion plans

Primark is on track to open ten new stores before Christmas as the high street giant pushes on with its huge expansion plans.

Its parent owner Associated British Food (ABF) said it wants to add 27 stores before the end of the financial year in April.

Primark will expand across Europe and the US, with ten new stores in North America, four in France, four in Italy and three in Spain.

A further two shops will open in Romania, one in Slovakia, two in Poland and two in Northern Ireland, including one store that has been refurbished.

It comes after Primark said last month it will open four new stores in the UK as part of a £140million high street investment plan.

The new Primark stores will be in Bury St Edmunds, Craigavon, Salisbury and Teesside Park.

The cheap clothing giant now has 190 UK shops, employing 30,000 people.

“Our outlook for the full year is unchanged,” ABF chair Michael McLintock said.

“We continue to expect further significant input cost inflation, but the volatility of our input costs has diminished.

“For the full year, we continue to expect significant growth in sales for the group, and adjusted operating profit and adjusted earnings per share to be lower than the previous financial year.”

ABF, which also owns Twinings and Blue Dragon, reported an adjusted operating profit of £1.4billion and adjusted earnings per share of 131.1p for its full year to 17 September 2022.

In the UK, Primark has just launched its click and collect trial, allowing customers to shop online for the first time.

Around 2,000 products are available to click and collect across 25 stores - including around 800 exclusive to the service.

Primark allows free returns if you need to take a product back.

At the moment, it will only include kids toys, clothing and nursery ranges across the North West of England, Yorkshire and North Wales.

Other ranges, including womenswear, menswear and homeware can only be bought in store for the time being.

Shoppers will also need to make a minimum purchase of £15 to use click and collect but there is no extra charge for the service.
