A woman who found out while clothes shopping that she can fit into both a size six and, somewhat improbably, an 18, has slammed clothing sizes, saying they "mean nothing". TikToker Sarah-Louise Gee compared two products in a clip which has gone viral.
The XS top she selected is designed to fit a size six to eight, while she also picked a skirt in a size 18. Both of the items fit her as they are intended to fashionably.
"And they both fit," she said on the clip. She also tried on size 12 and size 14 jeans, from Zara and New Look respectively.
Both of those fitted, but a size 14 pair in Primark wouldn't button up, reports BirminghamLive.
"These are a size 14 from New Look, and they fit," she said. After being flooded with praise from fans, she said: "Thanks so much.
"I remember being so disheartened if I couldn't fit in my 'usual' size. But now I know it actually doesn't matter one bit!"
A OnePoll survey for the union GMB found 92% of women don’t fit into the same size clothes but 82% wanted standardised sizing.
Computer programmer Anna Powell-Smith created website, What Size Am I?, which promises to tell women the size they really are in different High Street stores, using their bust, waist and hip measurements. TV psychologist Emma Kenny said: “Don’t allow sizing to dictate happiness. Society has made it desirable to be a small six or eight dress size.
“I did a study of body image and was staggered to find 20% of women would prefer to have heart problems if they could stay slim. This is the way we’re breeding our young girls – that small is healthy.”
