Primark's wrapping paper hack could save Brits a fortune this Christmas

Primark is famous for its brown paper bags and if you have any spare ones lying around from a recent trip to Primark, it might be worth pulling them out in order to save a penny to two this Christmas.

The Irish retailer has brought back its popular candy-cane red-striped paper bag again this festive season, which has been designed to be doubled up and used as wrapping paper.

Primark promotes this hack as a sustainable and environmentally friendly way to wrap presents as their paper bags are made from natural and renewable resources, and are 100% recyclable.

It is also, however, a handy little money-saving technique as you won’t have to spend extra on wrapping paper by using the Primark bag instead.

The shop does not charge for its paper bags when you make a purchase in-store - so the wrapping paper is free.

Last Christmas, Primark shared a two-minute video on its YouTube page demonstrating how the bags can be used to wrap gifts, and this year it has taken to TikTok to share the hack with its followers.

In a TikTok posted this week, Primark said that in order to turn your bag into wrapping paper you must follow a few simple steps.

You must first cut the top and bottom of the bag off along the dotted lines so you are left with the striped paper, you can then cut the bag to the size of the gift you are wrapping.

Primark said you should then place the gift in the centre and begin wrapping, it recommends you try and keep the paper snug around the gift you are wrapping.

If you have enough paper left, you can then add a gift tag too which is marked out on Primark’s paper bags too.

It's not just wrapping paper that the bag can be used for, you can also make crackers as well as a stocking (PA)

The trend has once again gathered steam and TikTok users across the UK are sharing how they are wrapping their presents this year with some shoppers who have tried the hack saying the bags are thick enough that they can be used to safely wrap packages to send through the post

One TikTok by user @Rowansalama3, which has accumulated 113,000 likes on her video, shared, said: “I’m sorry… Am I the only one who didn’t know that you could use Primark Bags to wrap up Christmas gifts?”

Her video showed her following Primark’s steps paired with a sound clip which said “the woman is too stunned to speak”.

@Rowansalama3 makes lifestyle content on the app and commenters to her video joined her in her amazement of the hack.

One user @__peachy..vibezz__ said: “I used it for my friend's birthday gifts, what a lifesaver! I didn’t have any wrapping paper!”

Another user said: “I did this last year with the bags and omg the presents looked lovely under the tree wrapped in this”

Another user, @Liv__clarke177 said: "I used this for presents to my friends rather than my kids and it does save you a small fortune if it's just for little presents!"
