Primark's £12 heeled sandals give excited fans a taste of nostalgia

The appalling weather of the last week has left many people lusting for just a glimmer of sunshine as yet more rain lashes down.

Anyone braving the elements to head out shopping this weekend will likely be dodging puddles in winter boots or wellies, so the thought of pulling on a pair of open-toe sandals seems a bit premature.

However, Primark is already thinking ahead to next season's stock and has advertised a pair of mules that fans say are ideal for spring and summer holidays. It posted a picture of the shoes on Instagram this afternoon (Sunday, February 20) and within just one hour more than 5,000 people had 'liked' the post.

The wood-effect heeled mules have a plaited strap across the foot with metal stud detailing, and come in nude or black. Followers of the retailer left a stream of heart and fire emojis in the comments section as they tagged their friends, urging them to be on the look-out for them in store.

The style transported several shoppers back to eras past, with one woman commenting on the post: "Omg I remember them from the 90s [crying laughing emoji]." A second commented: "Proper 70s just hope they have a good grip on them on the heal [sic] use to be leather if not lol."

"These are giving me flashbacks but I’d also quite like a pair" confided a third, while another declared to a friend: "Love these for holiday."

One commenter was less happy to see the style return, however, commenting: "Oh wow more ugly 90s shoes."

Primark listed the price of the sandals as £12 for shoppers in England, captioning the photo: "These shoes are making us excited for warmer weather."
