Primark partners with Fairtrade for new sustainable skincare range

Primark has announced it has partnered with the Fairtrade Foundation on a new line of sustainable skincare products that are set to land in stores soon.

The new six part range of beauty products are set to launch in the 14 markets that the retailer currently operates in starting from this month. It is the latest move from Primark, after venturing into the beauty market as it aims to bring affordable and luxurious skincare to customers.

Part of Primark's Wellness section, the new line will feature body butter, bath oil, face cream, balm to oil cleanser, multibalm and hand cream, which are all made using Fairtrade certified shea butter and olive oil. The retailer's new range of skincare products will be made available to buy in select stores across Europe and the US.

Primark's partnership with Fairtrade was founded due to their shared values of offering more sustainable products and improving the livelihoods and resilience of people across supply chains. All products included will display the Fairtrade mark, which shows that it has been certified to offer a better deal for the farmers and workers involved.

The Fairtrade certification means producers have access more sustainable, long-term contracts and earn a higher price for their oil, so they can build a better life for their families and communities.

Primark has said its new skincare line will predominantly help women shea butter farmers, as they will be able to able to live decently, develop autonomy and entrepreneurship, and improve their ways of working.

It will build on the 'Primark Care's initiative, which was set up by the fashion chain with the goal of making sustainable products more accessible to everyone.

The new sustainable skincare range also comes after the retailer unveiled a wide-reaching strategy that would help them to become a more sustainable brand.

As part of their strategy, Primark has committed to making sure that all their clothing is made from recycled or more sustainably sourced materials by 2030.

Primark Cares Director Lynn Walker said: "Our Primark Cares ambition is to make more sustainable products affordable for everyone while improving the lives of the workers who make our products.

We know we can’t do this alone and so we’re delighted to partner with Fairtrade to work together towards our shared goals.

This partnership will help us deliver on our ambition by offering an affordable beauty collection, at scale, which helps provide better opportunities for farmers without a high price tag.”
