MUMBAI: The Christian community turned out in strength to attend Maundy Thursday services that were held at churches citywide April 6. Priests conducted the mass of the Lord's Supper and washed the feet of women, underprivileged and marginalised people. Holy hour was observed later at night.
Archbishop of Bombay Oswald Cardinal Gracias led mass in Mulund. Fr Nigel Barrett, spokesman for the archdiocese of Bombay, said, "Maundy Thursday is the feast of the institution of the holy eucharist (mass) and the priesthood. Normally the Cardinal would celebrate mass at Holy Name Cathedral, Colaba, but in his desire to be among his flock, he chose to celebrate the mass of the Lord's Supper at St Pius X Church, Mulund."
