It's July, which of course means it's time for Pride - and this year's London Pride on July 2 is set to be bigger and better than ever.
With several special events and parties to mark it, Pride is a pretty huge deal for the LGBTQ+ community.
While it's mostly about having loads of fun and coming together as a community, June's Pride Month also has a rich history behind it, commemorating the 1969 Stonewall riots in New York City.
Considered the beginning of the modern-day LGBTQ+ rights movement, Pride - which took place as marches on the last Sunday of June - has evolved into a month-long celebration.
If you're going to attend your first Pride, here are some essential tips to make sure you enjoy yourself and stay safe.
Make Pride plans in advance
There's no shortage of Pride events across the country and world. But it's important to do your research on the various events taking place and earmark the ones you're most keen to attend.
By researching and planning in advance, you'll also be able to keep an eye out for good deals on flights and hotels. You might even discover that there are passes that can get into multiple events at a great discount.
Pride parties sell out quickly so a plan or schedule is really important to make sure you don't miss out on the events you are most looking forward to.
Pack accordingly
The whole point of Pride is to celebrate who you truly are - so you are completely free to wear whatever you want.
So, don't think too much about outfit choices. Pack anything you love to wear and you're comfortable in. If you'd rather try something you've never worn before, then go for that!
There are no restrictions and you won't be alone no matter how over-the-top or simple your clothes are. But one thing you need to make sure you pack? Sunscreen!
Drinks aren't compulsory
Pride is all about letting loose and having fun. And yes, this means there will be plenty of alcohol going around. However, you don't have to drink if you don't want to.
There are many cities that have a selection of sober Pride events, so look those up and also ask other community members for suggestions.
You won't be the only person not drinking at Pride - and there will also be many non-alcoholic options you could ask for even at the parties with drinks.
Attend it alone or in a group
Attending parties or events with a group of friends or familiar faces is always more fun. Pride is no different!
You'll most likely meet new people while you're at Pride, but it never hurts to go with someone you already know and want to share the experience with.
However, attending alone is just as good if that's what you prefer. Don't fret just because you have no one to attend the events with, you'll probably make friends while you're there.
Pride is for everyone
If you're not queer and you're worried that you shouldn't be at Pride, put that thought out of your head right away! Queer or not, Pride is for everyone, and is chance for you to celebrate not just your gender and sexuality, but yourself as you are.
