- Following his emergence from the coma, Colon remained in a vegetative state and required computer assistance to communicate, receiving full-time care from his family until his death.
- Prior to his tragic 2015 contest, Colon was an undefeated professional prospect who held a record of 16 wins, including 13 knockouts.
