Price of stamps to increase again as An Post announce increase as a result of inflation

An Post has announced that the price of national stamps will rise in February, as a result of inflation.

The cost of a basic national stamp will increase, while the worldwide letter stamp and the new Digital stamp will remain the same.

From February 1, the price of a national stamp will go up by 10c to €1.35. An Post has said that this increase is “in line with 2022 inflation”.

A statement from the postal service said that the new price reflects “sustained transport, fuel and energy cost inflation and the true cost of maintaining a nationwide postal service as traditional letter volumes continue to fall”.

“The new postal tariffs will help ensure the continuity of national letter services based on customers paying the same price for delivery of letters nationwide regardless of distance, as well as ongoing investment in letter services, staff and digital innovation,” the statement said.

The price of a standard stamp was last increased in March 2022, when it went up by 15c to €1.25.

The worldwide letter stamp will remain at its current price of €2.20, while the Digital Stamp will stay at €2. This new stamp was introduced in October and is available in seconds through the An Post App.

Despite the increase, An Post say that their prices remain below the “current average European tariffs for high quality, next-day letter delivery services”.

Speaking about the increase, Garrett Bridgeman, Managing Director of An Post Commerce, said: “There has been very significant input cost inflation across our business, most particularly in fuel at 25% this past year, and energy at more than 60%.

“We have made every effort to minimise the necessary price increases by spreading them across our products and services while working to ensure top quality, sustainable services for all customers, regardless of where they live.”

An Post confirmed also that registered post and large envelopes will increase according to service or dimension.
