Shocked fans joked that the chips were so pale they had been "cooked in the pool "at Sandwell Aquatics Centre reports BirminghamLive.
One social media user jokingly tagged West Midlands Police saying "@WMPolice hello, I’d like to report a robbery….."
Matthew Williams tweeted saying: "Hello @FootyScran, this is the sausage and chips I had at the Sandwell Leisure Centre ahead of tonight's swimming events at @birminghamcg22 This cost £9.80!"
He added: "The food itself was, in my opinion, far tastier than it might appear."
Marc William replied "How much!?" but Matthew added "It's a lot I grant you, but the chips were tasty and the sausage was apparently an award winner!"
