Press Taylor addresses Jaguars adding veteran WR Josh Reynolds

The Jaguars added veteran pass-catcher Josh Reynolds to their wide receiver room on Wednesday, bolstering the position’s depth following season-ending injuries to starters, Christian Kirk and Gabe Davis.

Jacksonville secured Reynolds via waiver claim after Denver waived him from their injured reserve on Tuesday. The Jaguars will take on the two-year, $9 million contract Reynolds signed with the Broncos this past offseason.

Jaguars offensive coordinator Press Taylor expressed excitement about Reynolds’ addition on Thursday, before Reynolds’ first practice with the team.

Taylor noted he had monitored the receiver since his rookie season with Los Angeles in 2017. Taylor’s brother, current Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor, served as the Rams’ assistant wide receivers coach at the time.

“It’ll be fun to see,” Taylor said Wednesday. “Josh has obviously had a lot of experience in this league. Just spent at least one year out in L.A. with my brother, so I’ve always kind of kept an eye on him, known him, have followed his career, just the type of player he is.

“I think it’s nice to add an experienced veteran receiver that’s done a lot in this league. He’s got range. He’s got size. He’s got all those things that — the experience that I think you see flourish in a veteran receiver.”

A fourth-round NFL draft pick by the Rams in 2017, Reynolds spent the first four seasons of his career in Los Angeles, the first two with Taylor on the coaching staff. He joined the Detroit Lions in 2022 before signing with Denver in March.

The 29-year-old has logged 232 receptions for 3,116 yards and 20 touchdowns over 112 career appearances, including 54 starts. He caught 12 passes for 183 yards and one touchdown in five games with the Broncos before landing on Denver’s injured reserve with a hurt finger in October.

Reynolds tied his single-season career high of five touchdown receptions with the Lions in 2023.

Three suspects have been arrested in connection to a shooting that allegedly targeted Reynolds and two companions in October while he was on Denver’s injured reserve. Reynolds reportedly suffered minor injuries from the attack.
