President-elect Donald Trump has expressed a willingness to permit TikTok to continue its operations in the United States. This decision comes after the Supreme Court agreed to hear a case that will determine the fate of the app's ban.
During a Turning Point USA event in Phoenix, Trump highlighted his popularity on TikTok, which he initially joined during his presidential campaign. He attributed the app's success in engaging young voters to his electoral gains, stating, 'We won by 36 points with young people.' Despite losing the 18- to 29-year-old voter demographic to Vice President Kamala Harris, Trump acknowledged the positive response his campaign received on TikTok.
Trump's stance on TikTok has evolved over time. While he previously supported a ban on the app, his position shifted during the campaign as he recognized its potential impact on reaching a younger audience.
The Supreme Court recently agreed to review the constitutionality of a ban on TikTok that was passed by Congress and approved by President Joe Biden. Trump, in a news conference, expressed his fondness for the app, indicating a change in his attitude towards its operation in the country.
Notably, Trump met with TikTok CEO Shou Chew at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, signaling a potential shift in his approach to the app's presence in the US.
