President-elect Donald Trump reached out to Matt Gaetz on Thursday morning to convey that he did not have sufficient votes in the Senate to secure confirmation, as per a source familiar with the call.

The source emphasized that Trump did not explicitly request Gaetz to withdraw from consideration, but rather allowed Gaetz to independently arrive at that decision, which Gaetz promptly did.
