Ukraine stands, freedom stands, says Joe Biden on surprise visit to Kyiv

Joe Biden made a surprise visit to Ukraine on Monday ahead of the first anniversary of Vladimir Putin’s invasion and declared: “One year later, Kyiv stands. And Ukraine stands. Democracy stands.”

The US president met Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv and told him that America would back Ukraine in the war for “as long as it takes”. He added: “Putin’s war of conquest is failing.”
