President Biden delivered an approximately 11-minute address to the nation from the Oval Office on Wednesday. During his speech, while seated behind the Resolute Desk and surrounded by portraits of American presidents, Biden announced his decision not to seek re-election and outlined his plans for the remainder of his term.
One of the key points Biden emphasized was his commitment to denouncing hate and extremism. He made it unequivocally clear that there is no place in America for political violence or any form of violence, stating, 'I'll keep calling out hate and extremism. Make it clear [that] there is no place, no place in America for political violence or any violence that ever. Period.'
Meanwhile, former President Trump narrowly escaped an assassination attempt on July 13 during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The incident sent a unifying shockwave throughout the Republican Party, leading to Trump being formally named as their nominee the following week.
