President Biden And Allies Focus On Reproductive Rights Anniversary

U.S. President Joe Biden at the White House

President Joe Biden and his allies are gearing up to commemorate the second anniversary of the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. The campaign is hosting over 50 events nationwide leading up to the two-year mark of the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization ruling, which eliminated the federal legal right to abortion.

The events will feature prominent Biden surrogates, celebrities, and political figures. First Lady Jill Biden will participate in two 'Women for Biden-Harris' events in Pennsylvania, while Vice President Kamala Harris is expected to attend events in Arizona and Maryland. Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff will join a roundtable and campaign rally in Michigan.

The administration, including the White House press secretary, will also commemorate the anniversary on Monday. The campaign's strategy focuses on tangible issues that impact voters' daily lives, particularly reproductive rights, to rally support, especially among young and female voters crucial to Biden's reelection bid.

Vice President Harris has been leading a 'fight for reproductive freedoms' tour, emphasizing the threat of a national abortion ban under another Trump term. She has criticized Trump's influence on the conservative Supreme Court majority that overturned Roe v. Wade and warned of potential risks to other reproductive rights.

First Lady Jill Biden has also been vocal about women's health care issues, condemning Trump's actions and policies that restrict abortion access. President Biden has raised concerns about potential Supreme Court vacancies in the next four years and the impact of Trump appointees on personal liberties.

Following the 2022 Supreme Court decision, several states have imposed restrictions on abortion, leading to higher rates of maternal and infant mortality and increased economic insecurity in those areas. Biden and his allies are mobilizing around the issue of reproductive rights, framing it as a critical factor in the upcoming election and highlighting the stakes for women's health care and personal freedoms.
