Presenter who fainted during live debate issues health update as she announces return to TV

The presenter who fainted live on air during a political debate on TalkTV yesterday has issued an update on her health. Kate McCann was hosting the latest Tory leadership debate between Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak when the incident occurred.

Truss looked on in horror during yesterday's dramatic show, as Kate fainted right in front of her. Now the presenter has broken her silence, giving an update on her health as she confirmed she'd be returning to TV tonight.

"Well that wasn't how last night was supposed to end! Thanks everyone for the lovely messages - I'm fine now - and apologies to @trussliz and @RishiSunak for cutting the debate short," she wrote on Twitter. "Tonight I'll be unpicking the debate with some new polling from 7pm ( ...yes, sat down!)."

Kate will be joined by Kate Ferguson, former Number 10 Deputy Head of Policy Will Tanner and Deputy Editor of ConservativeHome Henry Hill, to discuss the politics of the day and yesterday's debate, reports the Mirror.

Viewers were stunned yesterday, unaware initially of what had happened as Liz rushed to check on Kate after hearing a loud bang and seeing the interviewer collapse in front of them. She was visibly shocked, as she halted her answer midway through a sentence, and rushed over to help.

Rishi Sunak also helped Kate, holding her hand as they waited for medical attention. Kate wasn't hurt in the incident, but The Sun and TalkTV confirmed they would not resume the debate following medical advice.

TalkTV tweeted: "Kate McCann fainted on air tonight and although she is fine, the medical advice was that we shouldn't continue with the debate. We apologise to our viewers and listeners."

The incident had happened around half an hour into the debate, which saw the two candidates field questions from members of the public, with one worried voter questioning whether her family should go vegetarian because of the rising cost of meat.

And in another part of the debate, the pair - who are vying for the role of Prime Minister after Boris Johnson was forced to step down - were also questioned by a cancer patient called John, who said he had been unable to access vital support after becoming ill.

Kate McCann will appear on The News Desk tonight on TalkTV at 7pm.
