Prescription charges in England frozen for year ahead

The Department of Health and Social Care has announced an NHS prescription price freeze in England.

This means the NHS prescription charge will remain at £9.35 per item. The freeze also applies to the cost of an NHS Prescription Prepayment Certificate (PPC) which will stay at:

£30.25 for 3 months

£108.10 for 12 months (patients can spread the cost and pay in 10 monthly instalments).

Patients who pay for their NHS prescriptions could save with a PPC. Patients will save if they need more than 3 items in 3 months, or 11 items in 12 months. The certificate covers all NHS prescriptions for the one-off set price. How much they can save depends on the number of prescriptions they need each month.

Patients can find out more information and apply for a PPC online at www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/ppc. If they provide an email address, they can now get their PPC instantly by email.

Before buying a PPC, patients should check if they are entitled to free NHS prescriptions and other help with health costs at www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/check
