Premises licence approved for In It Together Festival despite residents' concerns

An application for a premises licence in relation to the highly-anticipated In It Together Festival has been approved.

The licence, applied for by Climax Promotions & Events Ltd, will allow for the sale of alcohol, "regulated entertainment and late night refreshment" at Old Park Farm in Margam.

The site is set to host the In It Together Festival - taking place between June 3 and 5 this year - which will feature well-known acts like Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, Clean Bandit and Two Door Cinema Club.

The licence, approved at a Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council (NPTCBC) meeting on Monday January 17, is subject to a number of conditions.

Residents of St Davids Park whose houses are next to the site of the upcoming festival were given the chance to raise their concerns at the meeting.

One resident, Farida Patel, whose garden is separated from the proposed site by "nothing but a hedgerow", said: "It is very close to my house and how am I going to deal with that?

"What about emergency services? What about somebody who is disabled and cannot move about?

"It is really important that those issues are taken into consideration."

Another resident, Colin Brown, of St Davids Park said: "I have lived in this area for 20 years and I know how difficult it can be even on a busy work day trying to get out onto the A48 from St Davids Road."

As well as expressing concern about the use of the B4283 off St Davids Park, he added: "There needs to be control of people approaching from the South Cornelly area and that we have an ability to get out and carry out our business as best we can."

The licence will permit a maximum of of eight event days only per year, taking place across Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday or Bank Holiday Monday only.

A report from the Licensing and Gambling Acts Sub Committee adds that formal discussions between the Licensing Authority, Premises Licence Holder, and South Wales Police "must take place to discuss the proposed events for the year" every year in January.

Matthew Phipps of TLT Solicitors, who was representing the applicant at the meeting, said he could confirm that there would be "no southern access through or via the estate or the lane or road leading to and from the estate."

He added: "There will be a close interaction with the AA and there will be a robust AA signage plan adopted that will form part of the traffic management plan.

"There will be traffic martials at key locations all throughout and around the site, which will be fully risk assessed."

As to whether people with disabilities and emergency vehicle access on the estate are being considered, Mr Phipps added: "Absolutely they are. You need only look at the operating schedule and event management plan for that."

At the beginning of the meeting, Mr Phipps also assured residents that their concerns were being carefully considered.

He said: "We are on top of this and you can take, I hope, some comfort from the conditions [and] the event management plan."
