Partick Thistle are through to the last 16 of the Premier Sports Cup after a fine 4-2 win over Montrose - but Queen's Park are out of the competition.
Ian McCall's side headed into their final Group B match against League One Montrose knowing a victory would take them onto 11 points, enough to stop Kilmarnock overtaking them with their 4-1 win versus Stenhousemuir. They raced into a two-goal lead by half-time with defenders Jack McMillan and Kevin Holt netting. Craig Brown got one back for the visitors but it was soon game over.
New signings Danny Mullen and Aidan Fitzpatrick both netted to ensure Craig Johnston's late Montrose goal proved irrelevant and Partick Thistle progression. They'll find out their last 16 opponents later today (Sunday). McCall said: "We've qualified for the last 16, which is great, in a tournament that's really important to our club and there were a lot of good performances."

Queen's boss Owen Coyle meanwhile watched his side draw 1-1 with fellow Championship club Hamilton before losing a bonus point penalty shootout. Andy Winter put them behind but the Spiders levelled late on via Jake Davidson before losing 5-3 from 12 yards.
Coyle said after finishing Group H in third place behind Hamilton and Dundee: "We scored one and could have had three or four. As we move forward, we need to continue to progress and get better."
Thistle begin their second tier campaign away at Dundee next weekend while Queen's face a long journey north to Inverness.
