Newcastle United could be left feeling the effects of the winter World Cup well into next season according to one injury analyst. Ben Dinnery, who runs the site Premier Injuries, claims clubs did well to manage Covid and Project restart but the upcoming World Cup will act as a pilot scheme.
The World Cup in Qatar is the first of it's kind to be played outside of the normal summer window to avoid the blistering heat. However, it may not be the last.
Saudi Arabia have also launched a bid to host the World Cup in 2030 in collaboration with Egypt and Greece - if they're successful, the tournament is expected to take place in the winter. Newcastle are one of the club's who could benefit from the World Cup being played in the winter this year, allowing time for Jonjo Shelvey to recover and return to full fitness, however for those involved in the tournament, it could result in longer recovery times.
