The Premier League will review the controversial VAR decisions made against Newcastle United and West Ham this weekend as a 'matter of priority'. That is according to the BBC, with the contentious calls dominating the post-match talking points on Saturday.
Eddie Howe's side were held to a goalless draw by Crystal Palace at St James' Park despite a positive display from the hosts. However, the Magpies were left incensed after a Tyrick Mitchell own goal was chalked off after Joe Willock was penalised for a foul on Vincente Guaita.
Referee Michael Salisbury initially allowed the goal to stand, but was then advised by VAR Lee Mason to review the decision on the pitchside monitor. Mitchell appeared to push Willock in the back ahead of the collision with the Palace goalkeeper, but the the strike was still ruled out with the visitors instead awarded a free-kick.

The disallowed goal at St James' Park was one of several contentious VAR calls from top-flight fixtures on Saturday. West Ham boss David Moyes was left enraged after Maxwel Cornet's equalising goal was ruled out following a review, with Jarrod Bowen judged to have fouled Edouard Mendy despite replays suggesting any contact was minimal.
Both decisions have been heavily criticised by fans and pundits alike, with many questioning the use of VAR to overturn calls despite previously being given a 'clear and obvious' mandate. Michael Oliver ignored the advice of the VAR in Bournemouth's victory at Nottingham Forest, with the referee choosing to stand by his initial decision to award a penalty for a handball.
