Jack Harrison’s blushes have been spared after Solly March was retrospectively awarded Brighton’s second goal against Leeds United. A comical incident appeared to show the Whites winger - under pressure from March - hoof the ball into his own net.
The goal put the visitors in front for the second time at Elland Road, ensuring a nervy final half an hour as other results were stacked against Leeds. In fairness, Harrison redeemed himself 17 minutes later with a wonderful right-footed curler from outside the area.
United supporters erupted and the wondergoal set up an enticing final chapter of an eventful Premier League contest. The scoreline, however, remained level, and Harrison accepted the own goal in his post-match interview.

"I tried to do everything I could,” Harrison said. “I tried to get to the ball quickly but he (March) managed to get to the ball and touch it before I did. It’s a lesson learnt for me and I just have to be quicker in those situations."
"For us as a team, getting that second goal was important and we tried to push on for the third in the final bit of the half but we just didn’t manage to get it. I had the idea in my head (to shoot), and we knew we would be able to expose them in that area with the right foot. Normally it was Cree (Crysencio Summerville) but I decided to try it with my right foot and luckily for us it went in."
Luckily for him, the Premier League’s Goal Accreditation Panel awarded the Seagulls’ second to March. The decision has surprised some, but Harrison can now look back at the history book more fondly after having his own goal chalked off.
