Premier League club 'sack staff member' after complaint from player's wife

A Premier League club have reportedly sacked a long-serving member of their catering staff following a complaint from a footballer's wife.

The popular elderly woman was shown the door after it was alleged that she made a comment about a player's partner, which was overheard. According to The Sun, she has since been axed by the club and regulars noticed her conspicuous absence at a recent home match.

Other players at the side in question are said to be shocked by the development, particularly those who've been with the club for years and grown to know the now dismissed lady.

Elsewhere, the wife of Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, who had nothing to do with the sacked staff member, recently made headlines when she claimed that there are no good restaurants in Manchester. Sara Arfaoui blasted the city's local cuisine, complaining that there was "horrible food everywhere."

Replying to a question on Instagram asking where she loves to eat in Manchester, Arfaoui coldly admitted: "Sorry, I'm sad to be honest but nothing. I tried so bad to find a good restaurant but... horrible food everywhere. Can't find a real Italian or good sushi or just fresh food ... everything frozen. Restaurants here are focus on making money with drinks and shots like night clubs not quality food. Maybe in London but in Manchester nothing. I'm sorry."

Her comments prompted City manager Pep Guardiola to invite the 27-year-old Italian presenter to the Manchester restaurant which he owns, a tapas bar named TAST, having joked that Gundogan wouldn't play again this season. "I am disappointed that they didn't go to my restaurant," Guardiola said.

"Gundo will not play one more game this season! I'm going to invite her and Gundogan to TAST and of course, they are going to eat properly."

Arfaoui isn't alone in her disliking of Mancunian dining, as Manchester United flop Angel Di Maria 's wife once infamously expressed her feelings on the north-west city's offerings. Jorgelina Cardoso has gone on record to declare that her husband's time with the Red Devils was "hell" - and not only because of his plight on the pitch following his record-breaking £59.7million transfer from Real Madrid.

"I didn't like it at all… I can tell you," Cardoso, who married Di Maria in 2011, stated. "People are all weird. You walk around and you don't know if they're going to kill you. The food is disgusting. The women look like porcelain. Angel and I were in Madrid, at the best team in the world, perfect food, perfect weather, everything was perfect.

"And then came United's proposal. "I told him 'no way, no way', but he kept saying we will be a little more financially secure and we have to go. We fought about it… We try to be closer when things go wrong. I don't blame him for going there. It was horrible, so horrible. I just told him, 'Darling, I want to kill myself, it's night time at two o'clock'."

This article has been amended to make clear that Sara Arfaoui, the wife of Ilkay Gundogan, had nothing to do with the sacked staff member referred to in the story. We are happy to clarify this.
