Troubled steelworks in refinance bid as pressure mounts

The owners of Whyalla's steelworks have responded to political pressure to pay tens of millions of dollars owed to its creditors, saying they are "vigorously finalising new financing".

GFG Alliance's British billionaire chairman Sanjeev Gupta released a statement on Tuesday saying the steelworks were "navigating one of the most challenging periods in its history".
