Kate Ferdinand has been heard breaking into tears as she recalled the last precious acts of her husband Rio Ferdinand's late wife before her tragic death. The former Manchester United footballer shared three children with Rebecca Ellison - 16-year-old Lorenz, 14-year-old Tate and Tia, 11.
Before her death, aged just 34 in 2015 after a short battle with breast cancer, Kate has revealed that Rebecca managed one final amazing act for her beloved children.
Opening up about Rebecca's wish, Kate became emotional as she spoke to author Emily Dean on her Blended podcast. The former reality star, who announced she was pregnant with her and Rio's second child last weekend, shared how Rebecca managed to go to daughter Tia's fourth birthday party.
This is so emotional. It's making me cry because Tia's mum (had) done that for her as well," she said. "I don't know if I've spoken about this but it was her mission to go to her birthday party. It's very similar and they were so ill but the strength to go to their children's birthday party. It makes my heart warm but it's sad as well."
Kate, who married Rio in 2019 and welcomed their son, Cree, in December 2020, continued: "I put myself in the position as a mum to think of anyone who is a parent and is going to pass away and what is going through their head and in those final moments, they're still thinking of their children and what's best for their children."
The former The Only Way is Essex star added: "That makes me emotional because it's amazing that you could be so selfless and still putting yourself at the bottom of the pile."
It comes after Kate revealed she is pregnant with her second child. She took to her Instagram to confirm the happy news on Sunday morning (January 29). The 31-year-old could be seen in a black and white video walking away from the camera. The clip, set to Minnie Riperton's Lovin' You, then showed Kate turn around as she beamed for the camera before opening her coat and lovingly placing her hand on her blossoming baby bump as she sported a figure-hugging dress.
Kate captioned the heartwarming post: "We’ve been praying for you…" before quickly being flooded with congratulatory messages. On Monday (January 30), Kate returned to Instagram and gave her fans a second glimpse at her growing baby bump. The 28-year-old shared a glam bathroom selfie while thanking fans for their messages since revealing her and Rio's news to the world.
It comes after Kate revealed in July last year that she and Rio had suffered a miscarriage. She shared alongside an image of her in a hospital bed: "The last time I was in this hospital I was having Cree, but this time it was because out baby had no heartbeat in our 12 week scan and I had to have surgery.
"We were so excited & planning a space for our new baby in our family, we just couldn't wait to see our news with you all, but unfortunately sometimes life just doesn't go as we plan." She heartbreakingly added: "So much to say, but somehow I can't find the words. Absolutely devastated & heartbroken ...but couldn't be more grateful for the hugs I got from my big(er) babies coming through the door when we arrived home."
