Pregnant Britain's Got Talent act gives birth hours before audition airs on TV

Britain’s Got Talent’s pregnant singer Amy Lou Smith welcomed her “perfect” baby daughter yesterday afternoon - and she arrived just in time to watch mum’s audition air on ITV.

Baby Aida was born “healthy in every single form,” according to mum, and was welcomed into the world at 15:59 on Saturday afternoon, shortly before her mum’s incredible performance of Beyonce’s Listen amazed the judges.

Sunbed shop worker Amy Lou, 34, from Tipton in the West Midlands, was 30 weeks pregnant when she auditioned in January.

Judges Simon Cowell and Amanda Holden remarked that they thought she could give birth as she stunned with her vocals and earned four yeses.

Amy Lou, who is also mum to a four year old son, tells the Mirror: “She is absolutely perfect and healthy in every single form.

"I am so overwhelmed with all the love and support I’ve received from being on the show. I cannot put into words how in love we are with our perfect little girl. She’s made the family complete.

“I love being a mum and I’m beyond grateful and blessed that I’ve been able to welcome Aida into the world. It all feels like a dream right now and I keep having to pinch myself to make sure it’s not.

“We didn’t know my audition would be airing this weekend until the day before and I was already booked in to have Aida - so we were so shocked! I hadn’t told anybody on the show I was having her this weekend - so it’s crazy!

“As a family we are so in love and I’m so overwhelmed by all the kindness that has come our way. My own little BGT baby!”

Little Aida was born at 15:59 on Saturday weighing 5lb 14oz, and is already a star in her own right, having appeared on the show in her mum’s tummy, and proving a hit with the midwives in hospital.

“She had people swarming our room,” Amy Lou said on Sunday. “Nurses etc who had just watched the audition in the offices.

“What a day yesterday was for me. Life has gone crazy as you may imagine and the feedback and comments and positivity from the show is just insane - I’m so happy.”

She added she was “going to concentrate on settling baby Aida into our new little life together”.

As mum drew an eruption of cheers from the audience following her performance, where she brought along her partner and parents for support, Ant and Dec joked that the unborn baby Aida would be enjoying the applause.

Bruno Toniloni, who was making his debut on the panel, said Amy Lou was a “ray of sunshine”, as he celebrated her going through to the next round.

Amanda said she was “covered in goosebumps” and Alesha Dixon said Amy Lou was her favourite audition.

An astonished Simon said in amazement: “This doesn’t happen.”

ITV said the first episode of the 16th series had an average of 5.5 million viewers based on overnight figures.

Britain’s Got Talent continues tonight at 7:45pm on ITV1.
