Prediction for Scotland vs Ukraine: Hosts can gain revenge in Nations League showdown at Hampden

Check out our 7/5 prediction for Scotland vs Ukraine below

Scotland can go top of UEFA Nations League Group E with a win over Ukraine at Hampden Park on Wednesday and go some way to easing the pain of their defeat to the same opponents in June.

It's been a bitterly disappointing summer for Steve Clarke's side who missed out on a famous World Cup qualification then followed up with a truly dreadful 3-0 defeat against Ireland in this competition ten days later. A 4-1 win in Armenia lifted the spirits somewhat but a cloud hangs over this Scotland side.

Steve Clarke will be hoping the subsequent break has given his players the time to recover mentally from a summer of torment because he needs his side to respond positively if he's to avoid mounting speculation about his ability to get the best out of this group of players.

Bookmakers certainly expect a response; Scotland are 7/5 favourites with Betway while the visitors are 2/1 chances to repeat their summer heroics in Glagow.

Ukraine looked a class above Scotland in the World Cup qualifier despite half the team not having played any serious football in months but they have not really performed to the same level since and they head to Hampden with some major injury problems, which goes some way to explaining why they are as big as 2/1 here.

Oleksandr Petrakov's side look set to be without the injured trio of Dynamo Kyiv star Mykola Shaparenko, keeper Heorhiy Bushchan and Eduard Sobol, while Oleksandr Zinchenko, who played such a major role in the June game between these sides, is both suspended and injured.

One of the main positives from Scotland's win in Armenia was the the fact that Che Adams was able to break his international goal drought and his early season form for Southampton this season is also encouraging. Adams has already scored four goals for the Saints and he'll be a popular choice among First Goalscorer/Anytime Scorer punters at 5/1 and 9/4 respectively.

Prediction for Scotland vs Ukraine

Since winning in Glasgow, Ukraine have been beaten by Wales and drawn in Ireland so Scotland shouldn't be going into this with any sort of inferiority complex, especially given the visitors' injury problems.

Scotland still racked up 14 shots in that World Cup play-off so we know they can cause Ukraine problems and everything looks set up for the hosts to get their revenge this time. The Scots look the bet at 7/5.

Prediction for Scotland vs Ukraine: Scotland to win - 7/5
