PRAYAGRAJ: As many as 252 people lost their lives and 357 others sustained injuries in a total of 501 cases of road mishaps in Prayagraj range between January 1 and March 15 this year.
The range is comprised of Prayagraj, Fatehpur, Pratapgarh and Kaushambi district.
Statistics revealed by the range police on Sunday showed that as many as 95 people lost their lives in Prayagraj district between January 1 and March 15, while the figure for road accident deaths in Fatehpur, Pratapgarh and Kaushambi stood at 69,51 and 37, respectively.
Figures also revealed, a total of 221 cases of road mishap cases reported in Prayagraj district, whereas Fatehpur, Pratapgarh and Kaushambi districts recorded 121, 80 and 79 cases of road mishaps, respectively.
According to data, while 147 people were injured in separate cases of accidents in Prayagraj, the number of injured persons in Fatehpur, Pratapgarh and Kaushambi stood 76, 84 and 50 respectively. Ironically, the graph of road mishaps interms of fatal and non-fatal category in Prayagraj district has baffled the senior range police authorities who have asked traffic police officials to chalk out an effective plan to minimize the cases of road mishaps.
Senior traffic police authorities have drafted a plan to continuously monitor road safety measures as well as reviewing the status of accident prone areas, also known as black spots, on frequent intervals.
Data here claimed that there were 78 road mishap cases reported in January month, while 88 and 55 cases were recorded in February, and March month respectively, in Prayagraj district.
In Prayagraj district alone, 33 people died in January while 43 and 19 people lost their lives in February, and March fortnight (March 1 -15), respectively. Similarly, as many as 147 people sustained injuries in separate cases of road mishaps, including January (53), February (54), and March (40) respectively.
In Fatehpur district, a total of 121 cases of road mishaps, including January (49), February( 45) and March ( 27) were reported. While 37 people died in road mishaps in January month, graph of February and March stood at 22 and 10, respectively.
In Pratapgarh district, a total of 80 road mishap cases were reported which included January (32), February (28) and March (20). While 23 accidental deaths were reported in January, graph of February and March stood at 21 and 7 respectively.
In Kaushambi district, as many as 79 cases of road mishaps including January ( 29), February (29) and March (28) were reported between January 1 and March 15. While 15 persons died in January month, graph of road mishap deaths stood at 13 and 9 in February and March month, respectively.
