An incident involving a prankster spraying bug killer on food items in an Arizona Walmart has led to the arrest of Charles Smith, 27. Smith faces charges of felony-level poisoning, misdemeanor criminal damage, endangerment, and theft following the incident at a Mesa Walmart on Dec. 19.

According to the Mesa Police Department, Smith entered the store with the intention of filming pranks for social media. He proceeded to grab a can of bug killer without paying for it and then sprayed the pesticide on various produce items and prepared foods, including vegetables, fruit, and rotisserie chickens.

Smith filmed the act and later posted the video online. However, he voluntarily turned himself in and admitted to the crimes after being identified as the suspect with the help of the Tempe Police Department.

Mesa Police Department swiftly arrested Smith within 24 hours of the incident.

The Mesa Police Department commended the swift arrest, which occurred less than 24 hours after the incident was reported. They also highlighted the dangers of reckless actions disguised as social media pranks.

Walmart, emphasizing customer safety as a top priority, confirmed that all tainted products were promptly removed from shelves. The company apologized for any inconvenience caused to customers and assured that the affected area of the store had been cleaned and sanitized.

Law enforcement continues to investigate the incident, with Walmart cooperating closely in the process. The case serves as a reminder of the potential risks associated with irresponsible behavior in the name of social media entertainment.
