Praise as boy 'people just ignore' makes friend in park

ECHO readers have left heart warming messages after a boy who is usually ignored by people made a friend in a park.

Rebecca Green spoke to the ECHO about her son, Karne, being approached by a 10-year-old boy named Alistair at Folkestone Road Park in Southport last week. The mum-of-one took her seven-year-old son, who is autistic and non-verbal, to the park where she was shocked at the reaction of the stranger who approached him.

He walked over, introduced himself and even offered a high five to the quiet boy, with the 42-year-old saying something like that had never happened before. She said: "Karne finished on the roundabout in the park and Alistair came over and introduced himself. He must have realised he was non-verbal but he was still so nice. People just ignore him because he doesn't talk and because of the noises he makes.

"I said to Alistair thank you because no one has ever really done anything like that. It's just nice for him to be acknowledged. He's just the same as any boy he just can't talk so he can't verbalise what he's thinking."

Since the story was published yesterday, people have been gushing over the family's experience, with Mr1504 commenting: "Love reading things like this.

"My own son is autistic with minimal speech so I know what it’s like. So well done to that young lad I know the feeling of just one little action that can make your day without people realising it."

Sayitasitis78 wrote: "How lovely, parents have done a good job bringing up their 10yr old. Brilliant Karne responded to high five."

Rach45 commented: "Good on him. There are some decent kids out there who have been brought up to be decent, kind and respectful, just a shame there's not more of them!"
