At 18, will be youngest to play World Cup title round
On August 10, R Praggnanandhaa celebrated his 18th birthday. Barely 10 days later, the Chennai boy scaled a peak achieved by only a select few in chess history - and only one Indian, Viswanathan Anand, before him - storming into the World Cup final on Monday and setting up a dream date with No. 1 Magnus Carlsen.
Praggnanandhaa displayed his prowess by outplaying world No. 2 Fabiano Caruana in the third game of the tie break, which was the first 10-minute game in a set of two in Baku, Azerbaijan. In the round of 32, Prag had beaten world No. 3 Hikaru Nakamura. Prag now gets a shot at the World Cup knockout title and the top prize of $110,000.
