“Power Rangers” star Jason David Frank died by suicide last month, his wife said.
A cause of death was not released in a previous announcement.
“I loved my husband, and we were trying to work through our problems,” Tammie Frank told People. “His death comes as much a shock to me as anyone else. The truth is, I had no idea that Jason was thinking of ending things. Yes, he had struggled with mental health issues and depression before, but I could never predict what would happen that night.”
Frank, who was 49, portrayed Tommy Oliver, the Green Ranger and later, the White Ranger, on the popular 1990s series “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” and on other iterations of the superhero franchise.
His widow told People they had planned to separate but recently tried getting back together. He died at a hotel Nov. 19 during a two-day getaway together, she said.
Tammie Frank, who was married to the actor for 19 years, said her daughter died suddenly last year, which she believes contributed to their relationship issues.
She expressed outrage over the speculation surrounding her husband’s death.
“It has shocked and saddened me beyond belief to see that the media has turned my family’s tragedy into a tall tale,” Tammie Frank said. “Since Jason’s death, I have been harassed online and can no longer stand to watch my husband’s good name slandered.”
