“Late capitalism is a carcinogen,” barks one of the characters in the opening episode of series four of Industry. “It breeds a product for everything that you think you need…but I have the product people really WANT!”
Such self-aggrandising statements are par for the course in Industry. The high-stakes HBO/BBC show began life focused on a ruthless gang of self-serving graduates, wading through the toxic culture of London’s banking world, and series four – out this week – further expands its cynical worldview on how the rot has now leached out across all parts of society.
