Power generation at SDSTPS hit as workers stage protest

Power generation at the Damodaram Sanjeevaiah Thermal Power Station (SDSTPS) at Nelaturu in SPSR Nellore disrict was disrupted for some time on Saturday as the workers resorted to flash strike following the sudden transfer of union leader to Srisailam.

The workers led by the Centre of Indian Trade Unions Nellore district secretary G Srinivas staged a protest in front of the SDSTPS gate. The workers withdrew their protest after the transfer decision was put on hold by SDSTPS authorities with a promise to hold detailed discussion with union leaders on Monday.

The workers and officers at the SDSTPS have launched a protracted struggle to thwart the proposed handing over of the operation and maintenance of the power station to a private player on a 25-year lease.

Meanwhile, CITU State president Ch. Narasinga Rao condemned the management's vindictiveness towards the union leader in Nellore who was leading a stir against privatisation of the premier public sector power plant.
