Power fully restored to 5000 homes in Shetland after snow storm caused outages

MORE than 5000 homes in Shetland have been reconnected to the electricity network a week after snow storms caused widespread outages across the island.

Staff from Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) have worked since December 12 to restore power after an extreme snow and ice storm damaged power lines.

A total of 5289 homes lost power, with the final 24 homes in Vementry, Grobsness, Brechin and Watsness regaining connection at 4pm on Sunday.
