Port Adelaide forwards Orazio Fantasia and Mitch Georgiades have been axed after last week's flop against Collingwood, while Nat Fyfe has fallen short in his bid to return for Sunday's western derby.

Fantasia and Georgiades combined for just two goals against the Magpies and have paid the price ahead of Saturday night's Showdown against Adelaide.

Jase Burgoyne was also axed, while Ryan Burton is suspended.

Riley Bonner, Tom Clurey and Jeremy Finlayson were recalled.

Adelaide dropped Elliott Himmelberg and Harry Schoenberg in the wake of last week's loss to Richmond, while Darcy Fogarty (knee) and Patrick Parnell (concussion) go out injured.

Lachlan Gollant, Jordon Butts and Wayne Milera come into the side.

Fyfe was a late scratching from last week's one-point loss to North Melbourne with plantar fasciitis.

The two-time Brownlow medallist needed to prove his fitness at training on Thursday to earn selection, but he will be given another week's rest to deal with the injury.

Last week's sub Michael Walters has been named in the 22, while Nathan O'Driscoll, Brandon Walker and potential debutant Matthew Johnson have been named on the extended bench.

The Eagles could go in unchanged, with Elliot Yeo not yet ready to return from a calf injury, and Nic Naitanui (achilles) still out.

Essendon X-factor Jake Stringer has been named for his return for Saturday's encounter with St Kilda. He will be joined in the side by Sam Weideman (toe).

Key defender Brandon Zerk-Thatcher (ankle) was forced out, and ruckman Andrew Phillips was dropped.

The Saints' bid to celebrate their 150th anniversary was given a boost when defender Jimmy Webster was cleared to return from a broken hand.

Captain Jack Steele (broken collarbone) and Ben Paton (omitted) go out, while last week's substitute Marcus Windhager has been named in the 22.

Richmond have lost Nathan Broad (suspension), Jacob Hopper (knee), Jayden Short (calf) and Dustin Martin (managed) for Friday night's blockbuster against Collingwood at the MCG.

Youngsters Jack Ross, Hugo Ralphsmith and Judson Clarke have been called up for the huge match.

Collingwood recalled Ash Johnson for injured big man Mason Cox, who has a haematoma in his hip region and will need further scans before determining when he can return.

Forward Brody Mihocek was named despite suffering a finger injury last week.

Carlton recalled George Hewett (hand) in place of the injured Matthew Kennedy (calf) for Saturday's clash with the Giants.

GWS have been boosted by the return of Lachie Whitfield and Josh Kelly from concussion, but Jacob Wehr will miss a couple of months with a broken scapula.

Geelong defender Tom Stewart was named on the extended interchange bench after making an earlier-than-expected recovery from a knee injury, while Jake Kolodjashnij (concussion) could also play against Gold Coast on Sunday.

The Suns axed Brayden Fiorini and Bodhi Uwland, with Jy Farrar the only confirmed inclusion at this stage.

Wil Powell has been named on the extended bench after recovering from a hamstring injury.

Melbourne have handed forward Jacob van Rooyen his AFL debut for Sunday's match against Sydney at the SCG, while key defender Steven May (calf) will play his first game of the season.

Ruckman Max Gawn (knee), Adam Tomlinson (omitted) and James Harmes (personal reasons) go out of the side.

The Swans regain Lance Franklin from suspension.

Hawthorn have named Jack Scrimshaw, Harry Morrison and Tyler Brockman for Saturday's meeting with North Melbourne in Launceston.

The unbeaten Kangaroos have lost Jy Simpkin to suspension.
