Power cut off in Sumy, stranded Kerala students in Ukraine run out of water & food

KOCHI/KOTTAYAM: Around 600 students stranded in two hostels of Sumy State University in Ukraine are in a state of panic as they fear that time is running out for them to escape from the war-torn city. There were two major blasts on either side of their hostel block on Thursday night after which power and water supplies were disrupted. The town is about 50km from the Russian border and the Russian military is moving through this locality.

The students said they are waiting for clearance to reach the Russian border where Indian officials have been waiting for them since Wednesday. However, they are unsure of moving out as there has been heavy shelling and firing in the region. According to reports, local bandits too have started looting foreigners.
