Budget retailer Poundstretcher has apologised after an 'insensitive' post about the use of disposable barbecues.
The social media advert suggesting that the barbecues are 'a great way' to cook your food when 'hiking through the hills' sparked anger among followers because of the fire risk they pose.
Areas like Dovestones and Saddleworth Moor in Oldham have been ravaged by a number of fires in recent years, often caused by the lighting of the disposable barbecues, with numerous warnings being issued not to use them in such places.

However Poundstretcher's post suggested otherwise, stating: "Whether you are spending the day at the beach or hiking through the hills, our disposable barbecue is a great way to cook your food. Get a Medium sized BBQ for only £3 or a Large for only £5.50!"
South Yorkshire Fire Service was among those to criticise the advert, saying: "No, it's not a great way to cook your food 'hiking through the hills'."
Poundstretcher has since apologised to customers and deleted any posts promoting the barbecues.
It said: "We sincerely apologise for our misjudgement and deeply regret posting this insensitive message. We have made a poor choice in mentioning 'hiking through the hills' in association with this product."
It added: "Our disposable barbecues include clear instructions and warning statements on the packaging to ensure the products are being used safely and responsibly."
The retailer was defended by other customers though, many of whom suggested people just need to use their own common sense.
"But it’s not the responsibility of Poundstretcher," said one. "People need to take personal responsibility for their actions of things they buy and use."
"Seriously?? Where has all the common sense gone!!" said another. "People complaining for the sake of complaining and being offended seems to be the new norm."
